I start with a story that gives me hope. Spokane fourth grader Justin Hawkes recently wrote Eastern a letter. He told us he can’t wait to become an Eastern Washington University Eagle.
Not all college hopefuls wait until their senior year of high school to pick a university to attend. One Spokane boy, with eight more years of primary and secondary school ahead of him, has already made up his mind: he will be an Eagle!
The day after the Kent State Massacre, anti-war rallies erupted on campuses across the U.S. EWU, then known as Eastern Washington State College, was no different.
Early on in the pandemic, English Professor Chris Valeo organized a group to make sure people on the West Plains had they support they needed to get through this crisis.
Helping people and working hard are two things at which EWU ROTC cadet and nursing student Kylie Crooks excels. So, when it was time to award the very first ever Major General Barbara R. Holcomb Army Nurse Cadet Excellence Award, Crooks was an obvious fit.
