I truly want to thank each of you for the grit you’ve demonstrated throughout this term. As a community you’ve also shown tremendous grace and patience with each other as we navigate together through online working and learning and COVID-19 restrictions.

In light of surging COVID-19 cases locally and statewide, Gov. Jay Inslee Sunday announced roll-backs to the state’s “Safe Start” plan to reopen. Eastern Washington University continues to follow the Governor’s recommendations to protect the health and safety of all members of our campus community.

On behalf of the entire university community, I would like to express my gratitude to our EWU veterans and their families as the nation celebrates Veterans Day on Nov. 11 to honor those who have served our country.

Despite living in a pandemic that continues to have devastating effects on our country and experiencing significant social upheaval, our nation is continuing the long tradition of choosing our leaders at the local, state and national levels. I view this as a testament to the indomitable spirit of the American people.

We are now just a week away from what is already shaping up to be an historic Election Day on Nov. 3. Within our families, throughout our communities, and across various media platforms, our experiment in democracy is being put into practice as we actively debate and discuss our collective future.

In an effort to collaboratively promote increased access to a college degree, Eastern Washington University and Columbia Basin College have entered into a new partnership to benefit students who wish to attend and graduate from both institutions.
