Larry Cebula, a professor of history at Eastern Washington University, has received the David Douglas Award for Public History from the Washington State Historical Society.
In naming Cebula as the recipient, the Society’s Board of Trustees pointed out his body of work in the field of public history, and specifically his contributions to local history through digital media efforts.
Cebula is the creator and editor of Spokane Historical, a web and mobile platform telling stories of Spokane and Eastern Washington. Most of the stories were created by EWU students in the Public History Program.
The Douglas Award recognizes projects, exhibits, educational products or any other vehicle that informs or expands our appreciation of any field of Washington State history during the year.
In addition to his work as a professor at EWU, Cebula is the assistant digital archivist for the state of Washington—working out of the Eastern Regional Branch on the western edge of the Cheney campus.
While the award would typically be presented at the society’s annual meeting and luncheon held at the Washington State History Museum in September, given the current public health concerns this year’s program will be presented online.
