The 2018 National Teacher of the Year and Eagle alumna, Mandy Manning, is this year’s commencement speaker. Manning was named National Teacher of the year for her work with immigrant and refugee students at the Newcomer Center at Ferris High School. She will share her experiences during both the morning and afternoon ceremonies.
Students participating in one of these ceremonies should arrive at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena 30-60 minutes prior to their designated ceremony. Free parking is available at any of the Arena-owned parking lots. All guests will be required to go through security, so please plan to bring only essential items.
Once inside, follow the signs and staff directions to your respective college. EWU staff will be dressed in red commencement shirts and will be available to direct you to your lineup location.
Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students, you start the day with your tassel over your right eye. Near the end of the ceremony, you will be directed to move your tassel to the left. If you are a graduate-level student, wear your tassel over your left eye and carry your hood on your arm (right arm for master’s students, left arm for doctoral students). Place the velvet next to your elbow and hood next to your wrist.
Above all don’t forget to smile and have fun! Share your photos on social media using the hashtags #eagle4life and #ewugrad2019.
