University Recreation Center Reopened to Students

The University Recreation Center—or URC—has reopened with limited capacity under Phase 1 of Gov. Jay Inslee’s new “Healthy Washington” plan.

To adhere to the state mandated restrictions, the URC will operate as follows:

  • Open to currently enrolled EWU students by appointment only
  • Open amenities include Fitness Center (20 people) and the Climbing Wall (1 person)
  • Limited to 45-minute sessions
  • Ice rink remains closed
  • Arena remains closed

Once posted, students will log on to the EWU Fusion Portal to schedule specified workout times. Once logged in, select PROGRAMS, then either CLIMBING WALL ACCESS or FITNESS ACCESS to choose your option. If you CANNOT make your scheduled workout, call or email the Fitness Center (509.359.2639) or Climbing Wall (509.359.4015) so staff can release those spots for additional reservations.

No walk-ins!

Lockers and locker rooms are also unavailable at this time. Please show up in your workout attire. Access to the Fitness Center is available via the Elm St. entrance only. Access to the Climbing Wall is available via the lower east entrance only. The URC Parking Garage is open. If you have a disability and have a scheduled workout, you can call either the Fitness Center (509.359.2639) or the Climbing Wall (509.359.4015) for immediate access to your workout area from the parking garage.

There will be no public access at the time, however employee, alumni and community memberships will remain on hold until further access is permitted. COVID-19 safety measures and social distancing will be in place.
