Eastern Analysis Expert Invited to Join National Task Force

Patrick Jones, Executive Director of the Institute of Public Policy and Economic Analysis at Eastern Washington University, has been invited to join a 3-year task force of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering & Medicine, called the Resilient America Program.

The invitation reads, “On behalf of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) and Anne C. Petersen, Chair of Policy and Global Affairs (PGA), I am pleased to invite you to serve as a member of the planning committee, Community Engagement in Southeast Texas: Pilot Project to Enhance Community Capacity and Resilience to Floods.”

The Resilient America Program aims to help communities and the nation build resilience to extreme events, save lives and reduce the physical and economic costs of disasters, according to its website. Jones says he will serve as the “data guy” on the southeast Texas project. His selection on the committee is a nod to the Institute of Public Policy and Economic Analysis’ profile nationally in indicators projects.

Jones has been the Executive Director of EWU’s Institute for Public Policy and Economic Analysis since its inception. His past and present professional and volunteer work includes the executive director of the Biotechnology Association of the Spokane Region, chair of the St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute community advisory board, a member of the Spokane Economic Development Council, chair of the Spokane Entertainment Arts & Convention Advisory Board, member of the board of the Association of University Business & Economic Research Bureaus and board member of the Spokane Convention and Visitors Bureau. He is currently the chair of the City of Spokane Mayor’s Advisory Council on Economic Vitality and was recently inducted into the Spokane Hall of Fame. Jones has a PhD in applied and agricultural economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
