Email sent to Eastern employees from Troy Bester, senior project manager, Facilities and Planning, on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026.
Beginning Monday, Aug. 24, the Science Building and Cheney Hall Service Drive area will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian access to accommodate site improvements associated with the Science Building renovation project. The work includes landscape improvements, excavation activities, utility preparation and roadway resurfacing.
During construction activities, the project area will experience:
- Excavation and site preparation work.
- Operation of heavy construction equipment.
- Dump truck traffic hauling materials into and out of the work site.
- Dust-generating activities, with dust-control measures implemented.
- Temporary access restrictions within the designated work zone.
Paving Operations:
Final asphalt paving of the service drive is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 2, weather permitting. During paving operations, individuals in the vicinity may notice asphalt odors similar to those commonly experienced during summer roadway paving projects.
Delivery Access During Closure:
With the Science Building/Cheney Hall Service Drive out of service, all deliveries to the Science Building will need to access the facility through the Interdisciplinary Science Center (ISC) loading area via Freshman Lane.
Anticipated Reopening:
The service drive and surrounding work area are anticipated to reopen on September 4, depending on weather conditions and final curing requirements.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as the landscape improvements are completed around the Science Building prior to the start of Fall Quarter.
