Sabreen Deng

Sabreen Deng is a first-generation South-Sudanese American, and college student at Eastern Washington University. She is a junior, earning a Bachelor’s in Psychology, a minor in Africana Studies, as well as being certified in Social Emotional Learning. Sabreen is an inaugural member of the school’s CPP Students for Equity and Inclusion Committee. Sabreen plans on becoming a school psychologist. With her background as a Black, low-income student, coupled with her knowledge of Black history and Social Emotional Learning skills, Sabreen has the ability to add many positive contributions to the field of school psychology. Her interest in school psychology stems from her interests in ensuring that young children from marginalized groups receive equitable education, decolonizing the current education system, and understanding the roles of racism, capitalism, homophobia and sexism have in the creation of oppression in societies. Her summer research will mainly study the correlation of racism and the subsequent mental health of students of color. Sabreen will be working with Dr. Camille Frank for her 2023 summer research internship.
