EWU McNair Scholar Marixza Torres Accepted into Additional PhD Program

Congratulations to EWU McNair Scholar Marixza Torres! Marixza has been accepted into the PhD program in Psychology at the University of California, Irvine. This is in addition to prior acceptances to the PhD in Human Development and Family Services at the University of Missouri as well as to the Masters of Social Work program at the University of Texas, Austin. Marixza is a senior at Eastern Washington University majoring in Applied Psychology with a minor in Chicano Studies. To prepare for graduate school Marixza has completed two summers of research internships, one here with the EWU McNair Scholars Program, and the other this last summer at the University of Notre Dame. EWU McNair Alumna Raquel DeLeon Accepted into PhD Program at Texas Tech

Congratulations to EWU McNair Alumna Raquel Deleon! Raquel has been accepted into the Technical Communication and Rhetoric program at Texas Tech University. Additionally, she received has received full funding, including a scholarship that waives out of state tuition. Raquel graduated from EWU in 2016 with a BA in Psychology. Through her summer research internship with the EWU McNair Scholars Program, Raquel researched the long term effects of childhood trauma on shopping behavior under the mentorship of Dr. Deanna Trella. Raquel went on to earn her MA at EWU in English with an emphasis in Rhetoric and Technical Communication, and a Certificate in the Teaching of Writing. She worked in the Writing Center and taught both composition and technical communication at Eastern. For the last two years, Raquel has worked at Kalispell Regional Healthcare, under the Behavioral Health department. She worked alongside a licensed therapist to provide school-based mental health services to qualifying youth in Whitefish Middle School through the Comprehensive School Community Treatment (CSCT) Program. On top of all her work and applying to graduate school, Raquel recently gave birth to a beautiful baby boy Dominic! Congratulations and welcome to the world Dominic!

 

We are so proud to see all of Raquel's hard work paying off and excited for her next steps towards attaining her PhD!

EWU McNair STEM GSA Accepted into Immunology and Infectious Disease PhD Program at WSU

Congratulations EWU McNair STEM GSA Brandon Flatgard! Brandon was accepted to the Immunology and Infectious Disease PhD program at Washington State University. Brandon has a BA in Biology from Gonzaga University and is currently a graduate student in Biology at EWU mentored by Dr. Andrea Castillo. His current research is focused on post-transcriptional regulation of clinically relevant strains of Helicobacter pylori. He is interested host-pathogen relationships, synthetic biology, and experimental therapeutics. To learn more about Brandon, check out our "Contact Us" page on the EWU McNair website.

EWU McNair Scholar Halim Acosta Accepted into Two More PhD Programs

Congratulations to EWU McNair Scholar Halim Acosta! Halim has been accepted into the Computer Science PhD program at Arizona State University with full funding, and into the Computer Science PhD program at the University of Georgia, Athens! Halim is a senior at Eastern Washington University majoring in Computer Science. To prepare for graduate school Halim completed a summer research internship in 2019 through the EWU McNair Scholars Program. With mentor Dr. Yun Tian, Halim worked on an algorithm to find a solution to the ride-share problem. To read more about Halim and his research, check out his page on the EWU McNair website.

EWU McNair Alumna Veronica Albrecht Accepted into Michigan State University PhD Program

Veronica Albrecht Grad School Acceptances Announcements 2019

Congratulations to EWU McNair Alumna Veronica Albrecht! Veronica has been accepted into the BioMolecular Science (BMS) Gateway at the Michigan State University with full funding! Veronica graduated from Eastern Washington University in 2018 with a major in Biology. As an undergrad she worked with mentor Dr. Andrea Castillo on the fecal coliform levels in the Cannon Hill Pond. She presented her research at multiple conferences around the country. Currently Veronica is in her second year of the MS Biology program at EWU with funding through a Biology Teaching Assistantship.
