EWU McNair Scholar Leanne Allen Accepted to Masters in History Program at EWU

Congratulations to EWU McNair Scholar Leanne Allen! Leanne has been accepted by Eastern Washington University’s History Masters program. Leanne is a History major at EWU and has been mentored by Dr. Bill Youngs on her research through McNair. Her research interest is on the Nez Perce tribe of the Columbia River Plateau in the Pacific/Inland Northwest. We’re so excited for your next steps Leanne!

EWU McNair Scholar Abdulrazik Mohamed Accepted to PhD Program at FIU

Congratulations to EWU McNair Scholar Abdulrazik Mohamed! Abdu has been accepted into the PhD Program in International Relations at Florida International University with full funding! Abdu has previously been accepted by 3 prior Masters Programs at San Diego University, American University, and Penn State where he also received funding. Abdu is a senior at Eastern Washington University majoring in International Affairs. To prepare for graduate school Abdu completed two summers of research internships through the EWU McNair Program with mentor Dr. Dorothy Zeisler-Vralsted researching the conflict in Darfur and perceptions of that conflict. He has also presented this research at conferences in 2018 and 2019. To read more about Abdu and his research, check out his page on the EWU McNair website.

EWU McNair Scholar Marixza Torres Accepted into Additional PhD Program

Congratulations to EWU McNair Scholar Marixza Torres! Marixza has been accepted into the PhD program in Psychology at the University of California, Irvine. This is in addition to prior acceptances to the PhD in Human Development and Family Services at the University of Missouri as well as to the Masters of Social Work program at the University of Texas, Austin. Marixza is a senior at Eastern Washington University majoring in Applied Psychology with a minor in Chicano Studies. To prepare for graduate school Marixza has completed two summers of research internships, one here with the EWU McNair Scholars Program, and the other this last summer at the University of Notre Dame. EWU McNair Scholar Miriam Carlson Accepted to Gonzaga’s Education Specialist in School Psychology Program

Congratulations EWU McNair Scholar Miriam Carlson! Miriam has been accepted to Gonzaga University's Education Specialist in School Psychology Program. Miriam Carlson is a senior working to attain a BS in Applied Developmental Psychology, a BA in Psychology, and a minor in Communications. For her McNair Summer Research Internship in 2019, under the mentorship of Dr. Aryn Ziehnert, she focused on the cognitive appraisal of nontraditional students. Her research was accepted into the Western Psychological Association (WPA) conference, which will be taking place in San Francisco this fall. She has continued to participate in research with Dr. Ziehnert throughout the 2019-2020 school year and is also a research member in Dr. Charalambos C. Cleanthous' lab. EWU McNair Alumna Christina Ramelow Accepted into 3 Additional PhD Programs

Congratulations to EWU McNair Alumna Christina Ramelow! Christina has been accepted into the Interdisciplinary PhD program at Vanderbilt University, the Molecular Biosciences PhD program at Montana State University, and the Cellular and Molecular Pathology PhD program at the University of Wisconsin, Madison! This is in addition to prior acceptances at 7 other PhD programs. She is currently a master's candidate at EWU focusing on the neuroprotective mechanism of an isoprenol known as farnesol on the animal model of multiple sclerosis. She is particularly interested in understanding neuro-immune and neuroinflammatory processes, elucidating the cellular and molecular pathways that govern disease and designing novel treatments for neuropathologies.

 

Christina graduated from Eastern Washington University in 2018 with a degree in Biology/Biotechnology. As a Masters in Biology student, Christina has worked as a graduate student assistant in the EWU McNair office, a research fellow, and a teaching assistant. Christina is invested in mentoring and supporting underrepresented students in higher education and STEM fields and participates in groups and events to encourage inclusiveness in students and faculty. To prepare for graduate school Christina completed two summers of research internships as well as presented her research at several conferences. EWU McNair Scholar Marcos Monteiro Accepted into Two Additional PhD Programs

Congratulations to EWU McNair Scholar Marcos Monteiro! Marcos has been accepted into the Molecular BioSciences PhD Program at Montana State University and the PhD Program in Immunology and Microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine, both with full funding. This is in addition to four other PhD acceptances! Marcos is a senior at Eastern Washington University majoring in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. To prepare for graduate school Marcos completed two summers of research internships, one here with the EWU McNair Scholars Program and mentor Dr. Andrea Castillo, and the other last summer at Fred Hutchinson in Seattle. He is also the recipient of the Barry Goldwater Scholarship, one of the most competitive STEM scholarships in the country.
