EWU McNair Scholar Mori Williams Completes Summer Research Internship

Congratulations EWU McNair Scholar Mori Williams for completing his EWU McNair Summer Research Internship! Mori conducted his research on nutrient concentrations of cyanotoxins at Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge under the mentorship of Dr. Camille McNeely in the Department of Biology. He collected samples in the field and then analyzed these samples in the lab. Mori’s hope is to learn more about toxins and toxin flow in water to help prevent pollution and clean it out of our environment. Many thanks to Dr. McNeely for her outstanding mentorship. EWU McNair Scholar Lizeth Bañuelos Completes Summer Research Internship

Congratulations to EWU McNair Scholar Lizeth Bañuelos for completing her 2020 EWU McNair Summer Research Internship! Lizeth is researching roles of institutional and familial supports for first-generation Latinx college students during the COVID-19 pandemic under the mentorship of Dr. Aryn Ziehnert in the Department of Psychology. She is now conducting a survey as a continuation of that research during the school year. Many thanks to Dr. Ziehnert for her ongoing mentorship for Lizeth. EWU McNair Scholar Theresa Lee Completes Summer Research Internship

Congratulations to EWU McNair Scholar Theresa Lee for completing her second EWU McNair Summer Research Internship! Theresa continued her research on college student perceptions of the barriers of prison reentry under the mentorship of Dr. Lindsey Upton in the Department of Sociology and Justice Studies. Last year she led focus groups with college students and this summer she transcribed and analyzed the data from those focus groups. Theresa recently presented her research from Prisoner Reentry: College Perceptions of Reentry Barriers in a Northwest Community at the virtual Baylor McNair Research Conference. Last year she also presented this research at the American Society of Criminology (ASC). Many thanks to Dr. Upton for her outstanding mentorship. Theresa recently completed her application for the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship and is now hard at work applying to graduate schools and additional fellowships. Congratulations to EWU McNair Scholar Samantha Sanchez-Garcia for completing her EWU McNair Summer Research Internship! Samantha researched the impact of traumatic experiences on college students under the mentorship of Dr. Jillene Seiver a Senior Lecturer in the Psychology Department at Eastern Washington University. Sami recently presented her research from Traumatic Experiences and Mental Health Among College Students at the virtual Baylor McNair Research Conference. Congratulations to EWU McNair Scholar Rachael Pentico for completing her EWU McNair Summer Research Internship! Rachael did field research this summer on the Palouse Prairie under the mentorship of Dr. Rebecca Brown in the Department of Biology. Rachael presented her preliminary research from Spring 2020, A Review of Plant-Soil Feedbacks and Their Importance For Palouse Prairie Restoration and Management, at the 2020 EWU Virtual Symposium. More recently she presented her summer research Differences in Plant Soil Feedbacks with Respect to Slope Aspect at the virtual Baylor McNair Research Conference. Congratulations to EWU McNair Scholar Alexandria Coronado for completing her EWU McNair Summer Research Internship! Alexandria worked hard all summer under the mentorship of Dr. Lindsey Upton in the Department of Sociology and Justice Studies. With Dr. Upton's ongoing support, Alexandria will continue her research throughout the school year by developing and collecting responses to a survey. Alexandria presented her research proposal, Housing and Food Insecurity Among College Students, at the 2020 EWU Virtual Symposium.
