Congratulations to EWU McNair Scholar Badradin Mohammed! Badradin has been accepted to the University of Maryland for the Government and Politics doctoral program with a graduate assistantship and funding, with additional research funds. The additional research funds are to be used in years three through five of the program and can be spent to hire research assistants for dissertation work, fund research and conference travel, field surveys, or purchase access to data.
From the UMD Department of Government and Politics website:
Our focus is on training Ph.D. students to conduct research that creates new knowledge in political science on the path toward a successful career as a professional political scientist, as faculty members at an academic institution and in policy and private industry. We offer rigorous training in the major subfields of political science and the methodological tools necessary to conduct cutting-edge research.
Badradin will graduate from EWU in 2023 with a major in International Affairs and a minor in Political Science. For his 2022 Summer Research Internship, Badradin worked with Dr. Kristin Edquist and PhD Candidate Alberto Felix Beltran on a research project titled Water Politics: Changing Geo-politics and Changing Climate in the Nile Basin. Badradin has presented his research at the Black Doctoral Network Conference and the International Studies Association Midwest Annual Conference.
The EWU McNair staff are excited for Badradin and we know he will contribute high quality, impactful research in any graduate program he attends.
