EWU McNair Scholar Madelyn Brown Accepted into Three Additional Masters Programs

Congratulations to EWU McNair Scholar Madelyn Brown! Madelyn has been accepted into the Masters of History program at George Mason University, the American Indian Studies Masters program at Arizona State University, and the Masters of History program at Western University in Canada! She was awarded full funding at Western University. This is in addition to prior acceptances at 3 other masters programs. Madelyn is a senior at Eastern Washington University majoring in History with an emphasis in American Indian Studies. To prepare for graduate school Madelyn completed a summer research internship through the EWU McNair Scholars Program, with mentors Dr. Christina García Torres and PhD candidate and lecturer SimHayKin S. Jack, researching traditional ecological knowledge and wildfire prevention. She was also the recipient of the 2018 Gingolyx Village Government scholarship for academic excellence. EWU McNair Alumna Christina Ramelow Accepted into 4 Additional PhD Programs

Congratulations to EWU McNair Alumna Christina Ramelow! Christina has been accepted into the BioMedical Sciences PhD program at the Oregon Health and Science University, the Biomolecular Sciences Gateway PhD program at Michigan State University, the Cellular and Molecular Biology PhD program at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and the Neuroscience PhD program at Emory University! All of these come with full funding. This is in addition to prior acceptances at 3 other PhD programs. Christina graduated from Eastern Washington University in 2018 with a degree in Biology/Biotechnology and she is currently a masters student at EWU in Biology, working both as a research fellow and a teaching assistant. To prepare for graduate school Christina completed two summers of research internships as well as presented her research at several conferences. EWU McNair Scholar Halim Acosta Accepted into Two More PhD Programs

Congratulations to EWU McNair Scholar Halim Acosta! Halim has been accepted into the Computer Science PhD program at Arizona State University with full funding, and into the Computer Science PhD program at the University of Georgia, Athens! Halim is a senior at Eastern Washington University majoring in Computer Science. To prepare for graduate school Halim completed a summer research internship in 2019 through the EWU McNair Scholars Program. With mentor Dr. Yun Tian, Halim worked on an algorithm to find a solution to the ride-share problem. To read more about Halim and his research, check out his page on the EWU McNair website.

EWU McNair Scholar Rachel Silverthorn Accepted by Multiple Graduate Programs!

Congratulations to EWU McNair Scholar Rachel Silverthorn! Rachel has been accepted into the PhD program in Criminal Justice at Florida International University, the Masters program at the University of Cambridge, and the Masters in Criminal Justice at Washington State University. This is in addition to acceptances into two other Masters programs in Criminology! Rachel is a senior at Eastern Washington University majoring in Psychology with research interests in equity and discrimination in the criminal justice system. To prepare for graduate school Rachel has spent two summers, with mentor Dr. Kayleen Islam-Zwart, researching perceptions of potential jurors with regards to pregnant defendants. EWU McNair Scholar Lily Ann Long Accepted to Point Park Psy.D. Program

Congratulations to EWU McNair Scholar Lily Ann Long! Lily has been accepted into the Point Park University's PsyD Program. Lily Ann is a senior at Eastern Washington University majoring in Psychology. During her time at EWU, she has worked as a research assistant in Dr. Theresa Martin’s social psychology lab researching patterns within intimate relationships and stigmatization of mental health disorders, as a research assistant in Dr. Kolts’s clinical psychology lab researching problematic anger in a sample of adult men and the co-occurence of complex trauma and childhood gender dysphoria related to adult gender expression, and as a research assistant for Advancement Services helping to research and create case evaluations for prospects. In addition, Lily Ann worked as a summer intern through McNair with mentor Dr. Aryn Zeihnert, researching first-generation students’ experiences of shame as they relate to the academic context.
