S.C.R.A.P.S is short for Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service. This organization provides low cost vaccination clinics and free training classes for owners and their pets. It also takes in pets and animals wandering the streets or are dangerous to the people around them. The mission statement of this organization is to save pets, protect people and build community.

We are the regional provider of animal protection services to Spokane County and operate the County’s only open-admission animal shelter. On an annual basis, we respond to over 100,000 requests for service and care for 9,000 – 10,000 domestic animals. This organization does multiple things for the Spokane community and their pets. The SCRAPS organization is able to keep animal’s safe by getting them off the streets and in a warms and safe environment. They spay and neuter all of the animals that come to their facility before they get put up for adoption. The S.C.R.A.P.S. organization has also helped animals world- wide by taking in animals that have survived natural disasters around the world. Teachers should consider partnering with this organization when looking for an organization in their own community that cares for animals. Multiple students have pets in their home and partnering with S.C.R.A.P.S is a great way to educate students on things like getting their pet spayed or Neutered and making sure that their pet is licensed so that if their pet runs away or gets lost, getting their pet licensed is a way to make sure their dog/cat can get returned to them.

There are lots of ways that teachers and students could partner with this organization to make a difference in their community. The S.C.R.A.P.S. organization has a website that has valuable information on it. For example, they have a wish list for things they need in their facility. Some of the things on their list are food, and litter for the dogs and cats. A teacher could hold a pet drive so that kids in their school can bring in things that the animals in their facility need.
