This organization preserves and protects the Turnbull wildlife and habitat near Cheney Washington, while also providing education through its many partner programs. This organization is all about conserving and preserving Turnbull, and they do this with their many different types of management (e.g. Habitat, Fire, and Elk management). Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge has many different volunteering opportunities for people to help with. These opportunities include assisting with wildlife research, environment education, administration, maintenance, habitat restoration, and trail maintenance.
This organization can make a huge difference because of the support of partners and volunteers. Over 800 volunteers donate an average of 17,000 – 20,000 hours annually at Turnbull. “From its start in 1903, the National Wildlife Refuge System has owed its very existence to concerned citizens eager to protect America’s natural resources”. Turnbull is always looking for volunteers to come and support their conservation efforts, whether it is planting trees, or building fences to protect them. This organization preserves the environment that is native to our Eastern Washington area and is constantly trying to find new ways to help it grow and thrive.
The people at Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge are great to partner with for any teachers or students that are interested in preserving our environment or learning about environmental science. They host different events throughout the year, like the Fall Community Planting Event where many volunteers came to help plant trees at Turnbull. Teachers could have someone from Turnbull come talk to their class about the work that they do, and in exchange the class can volunteer with them by doing a tree planting. This would provide students with the knowledge and a purpose for planting trees and make a difference in the environment where they live.
