First Aid Certification

The middle school and high school students I did my project with worked with The American Red Cross to get their first aid certification. They went to a training and worked with teachers and coaches of the local school district to help them get CPR and first aid certified. This certification allows students to be a valuable asset to their communities and help people who are in a potential medical emergency.

Sock Drive

My 2nd-grade class worked together to raise socks for the residents at Guardian Angel Homes. The project lasted 2 weeks, and the students gathered as many socks as possible and they brought them to class so we could deliver them to the organization. The students felt like they were apart of something big, and they enjoyed gathering socks to those in need.

Blizzard Box

We held a school wide food drive where students/teachers bring in canned food/nonperishables. After multiple weeks of the food drive we also asked communities members to donate shoe boxes. The students put food into the shoe boxes, decorated them and gave them to meals-on-wheels. The students also walked them over to the nursing home across the street and gave them to the elderly people there.

Planting Trees with Cheney Middle School

In partnership with the Lands Council and the Eastern Washington University’s Department of Education, our group of 7th grade students from Cheney Middle School had the opportunity to contribute our time and service to the restoration of Marshall Creek. Our contribution consisted of planting trees near the shoreline of the creek to help prevent erosion and pollution. Over the course of the two work days, our groups were able to plant 887 native trees and shrubs on the wetlands.

Cheney Clean Sweep

The City of Cheney

This projects is designed to get the students involved with the community around where they live. The City of Cheney has groups of people go around the area collect garbage and recyclables off of the streets. The idea is to get the students to take pride in their community and help make it clean. This leads us to the idea of how we can help keep community around us clean as well.
