I had my 5th-grade resource group hand out the bite2go bags to different classrooms to get involved with the volunteer practice. The school counselor usually does it all by himself, so it also helped him with the large demand for bite2go weekend kits.
My students were learning about American Heroes such as Jane Addams, Martin Luther King Junior, and Ceasar Chavez. After learning about these heroes, we made a poster with phrases telling the lifeguards thank you for what they have done. Once we are done writing, then we colored the poster and drew on it. I took the poster to the local YMCA and took a picture of the lifeguards holding the poster to show the students.
Cards for Hospitalized Kids is an organization that collects handmade cards and signed cards for children that have to be in the hospital for extended periods of time. Most of the time, classes will send in cards. But sometimes, celebrities will actually write and send in cards for children.
My 5th grade class during recess got trash bags and gloves provided by the teacher. Their job was to clean up their playground and around the school of trash that was not thrown away properly. The class then discussed if they see someone littering or just seeing trash in the environment and what should they do.
This project is a variation of the Kindness Rocks Project. Instead of painting kind messages on a rock, students will write notes to encourage and uplift each other. The purpose of this project is to show students the power of kindness and encourage them to spread kindness to others. Once everyone has written their notes, students will read them aloud to the class before hanging them up on a kindness wall in the classroom. The kindness wall will be designed and put up by the teacher before students complete the activity.
The project is a supply drive for local Refugees by donating house/school supplies and items to be donated to the World Relief Organization. The project starts with a short lesson on who refugees are and what persecution is then goes into how the World Relief Organization can help by collecting resources and items for Refugees in Spokane.
