Springdale Food Pantry is a 501 C-3 non-profit started March 21, 2018. Staffed with volunteers from the surrounding community, SFP relies on donations from RURAL Resources out of Colville and the community at large. All of the donations (fresh, frozen, and dry goods) goes to the residents within the local area. All volunteers go through orientation and are required to get their food handlers permit.
Springdale Food Pantry is open once a month on the 3rd Wednesday, and feeds approximately 45-60 families. SFP advertises by flyers, social media, and the school bulletin. Boxes are packed up depending on family size and what is available for frozen and dry goods. Because this is a farming community, some families already have access to eggs, chickens, etc, so fresh foods are giving out as needed. The first time families come in, they give their name, address, and other contact information, then just sign in with their name after that. Each family has an index card with their contact information, number of people being provided services, and any allergies, items not needed, etc.
Teachers and students could easily partner with the SFP by holding a food drive for the community. While the organization is not local, the community is located just north of Spokane and has a high volume of low SES families that would benefit greatly from donations.
