According to the Whitman County Sherriff’s Office website “The Whitman County Sheriff’s Office is committed to making Whitman County a safe place to live, work and raise families. The Whitman County Sheriff’s Office strives to enhance the quality of life within Whitman County by working together with area law enforcement agencies and the community at large as we respond to the needs of those we serve.”.
The Sheriff’s department is involved with a large amount of work dealing with prevention and education surrounding the safety of the communities in Whitman County. They are involved in several programs in which they are outreaching to the community to gain their trust and to help educate them. Partnering with them to help educate your students inside the school would only make sense. Who better to teach them how to be safe in their lives than the men and woman whose job it is to keep the community as a whole safe? The more people they can educate, specially from a young age, the easier their job is.
The possibilities are endless, I had a law enforcement agent come speak to your classroom then we wrote them thank you notes. You could have your students make a PSA to inform other children of what they learned, you could do something special on Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, or anything else you could think of. In my experience they are always grateful no matter the gesture and eager to come into the classroom and interact with the children.
