The Union Gospel Mission Student Impact Center (SIC) is a place where “at risk” teens can go and feel safe. The SIC is open three days a week from after school until about 7:00pm. The SIC picks up middle and high school students up from school and brings them to the center. On a typical night, students get to the SIC and have time for homework or time to just chill and then students are fed a meal. One of interns will then give a “message” and then there is a time of reflection. When the night is over students are then dropped off at their homes.
The Union Gospel Mission Student Impact Center (SIC) allows for “at risk” teens to go and feel safe. Teachers should consider partnering with this organization because they are directly interacting with students that just want to feel loved and cared about. It gives an insight to the lives of some of our more “difficult” students and their backgrounds.
Teachers could partner by volunteering with the IMPACT center on one of or more than one night of their outreach nights (MWF). *** This organization is affiliated with the Union Gospel Mission. There is an interview process and an expectation that volunteers that are directly interacting with these students have a faith background. ***
Teachers and students could partner with the IMPACT center by donating clothes or toiletry items for their clothing closet for the students that currently attend IMAPCT nights.
