The Spokane Sheriff’s Community Oriented Policing Effort is a local organization that actively and continually assists local law enforcement. They are volunteers who often work as a bridge between law enforcement and the citizens of Spokane. They assist law enforcement with tasks that don’t require a commissioned deputy to complete and are relied upon to help families in crisis where law enforcement has been involved.
Spokane S.C.O.P.E volunteers have several programs they help deputies with in Spokane County. Two of the most active teams are the SCOPE Incident Response Team (SIRT) and the Citizens On Patrol Team (C.O.P). SIRT volunteers respond to large collisions, direct traffic and help block roads for crime scenes. So when you see the traffic people directing traffic after there has been a vehicle accident, now you know they are a part of S.C.O.P.E. The C.O.P Volunteers is a program that helps set up neighborhood watch and where SCOPE members patrol neighborhoods in SCOPE vehicles looking for suspicious activity to report. One program that can directly effect students is there program about bicycle safety. They have numerous different programs that help the community. If you are interesting in look at more of them, head over to their website and check it out.
One way to partner with Spokane S.C.O.P.E is by having your students create care bags for S.C.O.P.E members and deputies to hand out to the community. I was able to do this with a group of students and it was a big success. Another way you might partner with Spokane S.C.O.P.E is through their bicycle safety program. Students could either do a fundraiser to help purchase bikes, bicycle helmets or donate old bike equipment. This would help make them safe for students in need around our community.
