Miryam’s House is a part of a non-profit organization location in Spokane called Transitions. It is dedicated to providing transitional housing for homeless women without children. Miryam’s House provides one-on-one counseling, case management, life-skills education and even continued support for women once they have left the program. It contains 9 individual rooms as well as an apartment for homeless women looking to take that “next step”.
This organization makes a meaningful impact in the Spokane area, helping women find work and permanent housing while they are in the program. It is focused on helping these women develop a sense of personal responsibility and self-empowerment while providing a nurturing, encouraging environment for these women to recover from crises such as abuse, addiction, and displacement. The program lasts for one year while promoting financial stability, healing, learning, and self-sufficiency.
Teachers and students have many different opportunities to help assist the mission of Miryam’s House. The first way you can contribute to this organization is simply by donating. Things such as socks, clothing, baskets, and pillows. Items like these could be easily collected through donations by the students and their families. Handmade cards and accessories would be a welcome gift to the ladies in the program, and students might even receive a reply back. There are many small ways that classes can contribute to Miryam’s House, and any contributions would be greatly appreciated.
