The EWU Food Pantry Program aims to alleviate hunger and foster a healthy and inclusive community by providing access to nutritious food. All members of the EWU community are invited to take what they need from the cabinets and central pantry. The is no need to qualify the pantry is open to any Eag in need.
The EWU Food Pantry Program provides a place for those experiencing food insecurity on campus and in the nearby area to obtain food for themselves and their families. The Food Pantry Program serves about 100 students per week, sending out several hundred pounds of food to those that need it. In addition to the main food pantry, there are also 7 food cabinets across campus in various buildings. Students can use the food cabinets to grab items outside of the pantry’s open hours, or for quick foods when needed.
There are many different ways to partner with the EWU Food Pantry Program. They are always looking for reliable volunteers to help with opening and closing during their hours and keeping the main pantry stocked at the same time. They also get sponsors to help stock and support the smaller food cabinets each academic year. Many Greek life groups on campus sponsor food cabinets, but anyone can participate. The Food Pantry loves to receive donated food items and really appreciate it when students run food drives to keep them stocked with a variety of foods. Finally, the volunteers at the Food Pantry express that getting the word out on campus is one of the most helpful things to do. There are many people who don’t know they exist and could use the food they provide.
