Student Contributor -E Adkisson
The City of Spokane has an abundance of resources about Spokane and the communities within the city. This organization has links to Business’, developments, libraries, parks and recreation, courts, community, and any open data for the public. Students will be able to understand the importance of the community after learning more about where they live.

Spokane was founded in 1873 and is the home to almost 250,000 people today. This city was created because of the construction of the Northern Pacific Railway. Learning about the city and community is very important for students so they know what resources they have and how it is used. Students are able to directly relate to this organization because it is in their everyday lives. Once they learn about the details of Spokane they can teach their families and point out landmarks while they’re in the car or just walking around. Teachers should partner with this organization because students will have a developed understanding of their own community and culture.

Schools can partner with the City of Spokane in almost every grade. Spokane is filled with parks and recreations that students attend or see in the community, learning about parks in the classroom will make them feel more connected to the culture of the community. For older grades, when learning about the government the students would be able to see the Spokane courts.
