4Ocean

The purpose of 4Ocean is to clean up pollution in our oceans. They are focused on the trash that washes ashore on a daily basis. They concentrate on the ocean shores in Florida, Haiti, and Bali.

4Ocean was founded by two friends on the trip of a lifetime in Bali. When they arrived they immediately went to the beach. They were amazed at the amount of trash they saw lining the shores. They decided to do something about this issue. They created bracelets to help them with their mission. They began 4Ocean and pledged to clean up 1 pound of trash for every bracelet sold. This organization makes a difference by following through with their promises. When you look on their website, you can see a current count of the number of pounds of trash they have removed so far. When you purchase a bracelet, you can be certain you are making a difference. The bracelets are made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic bottles.

I think the teacher and students could have a fund-raiser to purchase the bracelets. Each one costs $20. They could all wear them to raise awareness. They could create a chart to be displayed in the front of their classroom. It would be used to track the amount of trash they have cleaned out of the oceans as a result of their efforts. It would also be beneficial to display a pound of plastic bottles in the classroom to show just how much trash would be removed with each purchase. There are several different bracelets to choose from. You could easily connect them to a lesson theme you are studying in class such as Earth Day or shark conservation.
