Registration Errors & Holds Information

Holds

Common holds which prevent registration:

  1. Academic Dismissal hold (must petition to be reinstated)
  2. Academic Probation hold (must contact the Center for Academic Advising and Retention)
  3. Account Balance hold (must pay balance below $1000; international students must pay balance below $200)
  4. Freshmen hold (all freshmen must get advisor clearance before registration)
  5. Graduate Program hold (contact graduate program office at 509.359.6297)
  6. Major Declaration hold (must submit major declaration form to Records and Registration before you exceed 90 credits)
  7. Missing Transcripts hold (must submit final high school or college transcript)
  8. New/Returning Student hold (all new/returning students must get advisor clearance before registration)
  9. Student Email hold (must set up EWU email account )
Department Permission Req

Students: The section (course) you are attempting to register requires special department approval to be able to register. The department can enter a 'Department Permission Req' override in EagleNET or Banner, or you can get a signed registration form.

Faculty/Staff: If you are authorizing this course to be taken in EagleNET or Banner, you must enter a 'Department Permission Req' override for the student.

Instructor's Permission Req

Students: The section (course) you are attempting to register requires special instructor approval to be able to register. The instructor can enter a 'Instructor's Permission Req' override in EagleNET or Banner, or you can get a signed registration form.

Faculty/Staff: If you are authorizing this course to be taken in EagleNET or Banner, you must enter a 'Instructor's Permission Req' override for the student.

Special Authorization Form Req

Students: The section (course) you are attempting to register requires special approval.  If the course is an internship, seminar, independent/directed study, or graduate thesis/research project and requires instructor permission.

Pre-requisite and Test Score Error

Students: The section (course) you are attempting to register for requires prerequisite courses or tests to be taken prior to registration. Students may contact the instructor or department to seek an exception.

Faculty/Staff: if you are authorizing this section (course) to be taken, you must enter a 'Prerequisite Test Override' in EagleNET or Banner for the student.

More information about prerequisite and test score errors:

  1. If you are currently registered in the prerequisite, the system assumes successful completion and you will not get this error.
  2. If you took the prerequisite at another institution, you may receive this error unless the course taken elsewhere transferred as an exact equivalent to the EWU section (course) required as a prerequisite.

English Placement Test

The English Placement Test is given to new, current or transferring students who are unable to be placed into a Composition course by using their ACT, SAT, IELTS or TOEFL score. Please call your advisor regarding placement using an ACT, SAT, IELTS or TOEFL score.

Waitlist (section is full)

The (course) section you are attempting to register for is full.

If there are waitlist seats available, add yourself to the waitlist using the ‘Actions’ drop down to select ‘Web Waitlist’ from the list of options.

Concurrent Section Registration

If a course requires enrollment in concurrent courses. You must register for all sections at the same time.

Academic Standing Restriction

If you have been academically dismissed, you will not be able to register. The petition for academic reinstatement can be found here.

Campus Restriction

The course you are attempting to register requires enrollment in a program on a specific campus (e.g. Cheney/Riverpoint campus, Online campus, Bellevue campus, etc).  For more specific information on the campus restriction:

  1. Search for the class section here 
  2. Click on the course title
  3. Look at the bottom of the 'Detailed Class Information' page

This error appears most often when Cheney/Riverpoint campus students are attempting to register in a self-support, online course (typically section 75 or 76) which are reserved for online or extended campus students ONLY. Cheney/Riverpoint campus students should register in state-support, online courses (typically section 27 or 28).

Cohort Restriction

Students: The course you are attempting to register requires that you are a part of a specific group (i.e. cohort) and that this be coded on your record. For more specific information on the cohort restriction:

  1. Search for the class section here

  3. Look at the bottom of the 'Detailed Class Information' page

Contact the instructor or department if you are seeking an exception.

Faculty/Staff: If you are authorizing this course to be taken in EagleNET or Banner, you must enter a 'Student Cohort Rest Override' for the student.

Class Restriction

Students: The course you are attempting to register requires a specific class standing (e.g. Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior, Senior). For more specific information on the class restriction:

College Restriction

Students: The course you are attempting to register requires enrollment in a program within a specific college (e.g. College of Arts, Letters & Education, etc.). For more specific information on the college restriction:

Contact the instructor or department if you are seeking an exception.

Degree Restriction

Students: The course you are attempting to register requires enrollment in a program with a specific degree type (e.g. Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, etc.). For more specific information on the degree restriction:

Field of Study Restriction

Students: The course you are attempting to register requires enrollment in a program with a specific major or minor (e.g. Africana Studies, Mechanical Engineering, etc.). For more specific information on the field of study restriction:

Faculty/Staff: If you are authorizing this course to be taken in EagleNET or Banner, you must enter a 'Field/Study (Maj/Min) Override' for the student.

Level Restriction

Students: The course you are attempting to register requires a specific level standing (i.e. Undergraduate, Graduate). For more specific information on the level restriction:

If you are an undergraduate student attempting to register for a graduate level course, signed approval from the Director of Graduate Studies is required.

If you are a graduate student requesting to take an undergraduate course, contact the instructor or department if you are seeking an exception.

Faculty/Staff: If you are authorizing this course to be taken in EagleNET or Banner, you must enter a 'Level Restriction Override' for the student.

Program Restriction

Students: The course you are attempting to register requires enrollment in a specific program (e.g. B.A. in History, B.S. in Biology, etc). For more specific information on the program restriction:

  1. Search for the class section here 
  2. Click on the course title
  3. Look at the bottom of the 'Detailed Class Information' page

Contact the instructor or department if you are seeking an exception.

Faculty/Staff: If you are authorizing this course to be taken in EagleNET or Banner, you must enter a 'Program Restriction Override' for the student.

Student Attribute Restriction

Students: The course you are attempting to register either requires or prohibits students who have a specific attribute/characteristic.  (For example, some courses prohibit students who have been exempted from paying on-campus fees). For more specific information on the attribute restriction:

  1. Search for the class section here

  3. Look at the bottom of the 'Detailed Class Information' page

Faculty/Staff: If you are authorizing this course to be taken in EagleNET or Banner, you must enter a 'Stu Attribute Rest Override' for the student.

Student Status Restriction

You have an inactive status which prohibits registration. If you applied to graduate at the end of a term, your student status will prohibit your registration in future terms. Contact Records and Registration at 509.359.2321 if you are changing your graduation date. Contact the Undergraduate or Graduate Admissions office if you plan to enroll in another program after graduation.

Duplicate Course

You are already registered for the course you are attempting to register.

Maximum Hours Exceeded

The course you are attempting to register would put your above the maximum credit load. Contact your advisor to submit approval to Records and Registration for a credit overload.

Repeat Count Error

The course you are attempting to register has already been repeated twice which is the maximum amount permitted. Signed approval from the department chair is needed for an exception.

Time Conflict

Students: The course you are attempting to register has a time conflict with another course in which you are registered. If the instructor agrees to override this restriction, you may contact the instructor whose course's time is going to be changed or shortened to accommodate you for their approval.  They can enter the override in EagleNET or on a registration form  which can then be submitted to Records and Registration.

Faculty/Staff: If you are authorizing this course to be taken in EagleNET or Banner, you must enter a 'Time Conflict Override' for the student.
