Official Name Change

For current students, please use the Student Update Form.

Please allow 3-5 business days for your form to be processed. You will receive a confirmation email when the change has been made.

Supporting documentation is required for an official name change. You will be required to upload your document(s) when filling out the online form.

Provide one (1) of the following items:

  • certified copy of a court order
  • certified copy of a dissolution decree or dissolution of a domestic partnership
  • certified copy of a marriage certificate

If you are unable to provide one of the documents above, you must provide two (2) of the following items:

  • valid driver’s license
  • valid military ID
  • valid student ID (other than Eagle card)
  • valid passport
  • original copy of citizenship form that contains a signature and photograph
  • federally-recognized tribal enrollment card
  • business license
  • birth certificate (must show legal name)
  • utility, telephone, water, medical or other bills (must show legal name)

Alumni & Incoming Students

Preferred First Name

Follow Information Technology’s instructions on how to update your preferred first name at any time in EagleNET. Your preferred first name will be used in place of your legal name in email, on Canvas, the campus directory and class rosters on EagleNet. This form does not change your legal name on your academic record, diploma, college ID or financial record.


Personal Information Updates

Birth Date Change:

Please use the Student Update Form.

Provide one (1) of the following items:

  • birth certificate
  • driver’s license
  • passport

Social Security Number Change:

Please use the Student Update Form.

Supporting documentation is required for an SSN change. You will be required to upload your document(s) when filling out the online form.
Provide one (1) of the following items:

  • Social Security Card
  • Social Security Card Receipt

Legal Sex Designation Change:

Please use the Student Update Form.

Gender Designation & Pronouns Change:

Follow these instructions on how to update your gender designation and/or personal pronouns in EagleNET.

Note: If you are requesting a change to your legal sex designation on your official student record using the Student Update Form, you can also request to have your gender designation and/or personal pronouns changed at that same time.


Address/Phone Number Changes:

To update your address or phone number, please log into EagleNET and click on the Personal Information tab.

If you don’t know your EWU ID or can’t log into EagleNET, please contact us.

Emergency Contact

To update your emergency contact, please log into EagleNET and click on the Personal Information tab.

Updates on a computer:

  • Scroll down the page to the “Emergency Contact” section.
  • Click the pencil icon to make edits to the information in the system, or use the trash icon to remove outdated emergency contacts.
  • Use the “Add New” icon on the right side of the section to add new contacts.
  • After the information has been added, click the “Add” button to save the contact information.

Updates on a mobile device:

  • From the Personal Information section choose the “View Full Profile” link at the bottom of the screen.
  • Under the header click the “Emergency Contact” title.
  • Click the pencil icon to make edits to the information in the system, or use the trash icon to remove outdated emergency contacts.
  • Use the “Add Emergency Contact” link at the bottom of the screen to add a new contact.
  • After the information has been added, click the “Add” button to save the contact information.

You may add more than one emergency contact and they can be updated at any time.


Voter Registration

Per Reauthorization Act of 1999, Eastern Washington University has made Washington Voter Registration Forms available at the following locations:

  • Dean of Students Office in the PUB (Pence Union Building)
  • Student Accommodations and Support Services Office in Tawanka Hall 121
