The Tree of Sharing is an organization that provides gifts to the “often forgotten” members of our community during the holiday season. They have brought together over 50 different agencies in order for a far-reaching accumulation process and to remain impartial in the distribution process. They have been serving community members of Spokane since 1982.
Not everyone during the holidays is able to receive a gift from somebody, or many are not even able to have access to the things that are a necessity. The Tree of Sharing gives people a chance to help those that are “often forgotten.” The agencies that are partnered with the organization help find those in need and find out what they are in need of during the holidays. They then create lists and tags for those people to get them what they are in need of. The Tree of Sharing organization is a way to give back to the people in the community in need during the holidays.
Teachers and students could easily partner with this organization in many ways. On their website, they have different age groups with different tags. A class could choose multiple tags within their age group and have each student bring in a gift for the “often forgotten” and wrap them in class and attach a handwritten letter to it as well. Another way that teachers could partner with this organization with a small group of students is to have them volunteer at one of the mall locations and have the students help gather the gifts from the people who are bringing them in.
