The City of Spokane’s Solid Waste Collection and Disposal departments offer a full suite of services for residential and commercial customers ranging from curbside pickup to drop-off locations, green services, and hazardous waste removal. The comprehensive system also includes Spokane’s Waste to Energy Facility and stresses the importance of reduce, reuse, recycle in the community through available educational resources.
To help keep Spokane clean and safe, the Solid Waste Collection and Disposal departments collect weekly garbage within the city limits for all occupied residences and businesses. Recycling, waste reduction, and the recovery of energy are key focus areas. The department offers a variety of educational services including:
• Classroom presentations, field trip opportunities, and waste reduction lessons
• Speakers
• Business waste consultations
• Master composter/recycler programs
I partnered with the City of Spokane’s Solid Waste departments by having an expert visit my second-grade classroom to give a presentation. They also conducted a sort activity. This organization offers a variety of education support resources, from classroom visits to facility tours as well as consultations to start recycling programs in schools.
