City Gate’s mission statement is “To Reclaim, Rebuild, and Restore, Lost and Broken Lives.“ They are a Christian organization that strives to support people in many ways through the use of a food bank, clothing bank, free meals throughout the week, and through providing low-cost studio apartments to people trying to get back on their feet. They average serving 60,000 people every 6 months.
The City Gate helps people in the Spokane community almost every day out of the week. Tuesday-Friday they provide bread and produce to meet the needs of the poor (walk-ins only). They also provide free hot meals four nights each week as well as a hot breakfast two Saturdays a month. They invite anyone who is able to volunteer their time to come in and cook and serve these meals for the homeless. Their food bank serves over 3,000 people each year; with this resource they are able to provide clients with 35 lbs. of food every 30 days for single dwellers. Their clothing bank serves more than 2,000 people annually and takes donations during regular business hours Tuesday-Friday each week. In addition, they own The Alberta House, which contains 28 low-cost apartments and 2 emergency shelter rooms.
