This organization provides seniors with activities, independent and assisted living, and medical support. They specialize in memory care to support seniors with dementia or Alzheimer’s. Their mission statement is: “Rockwood Retirement Communities promote independence, wellness and lifelong vitality by providing housing and services to seniors, with a commitment to excellence.”
The Rockwood Care Communities make a difference through assisting seniors in the Spokane community. They served over 100 residents in 2018. While this organization assists seniors, the seniors also give back. Many of their activities involve giving back to their community. The Rockwood South Hill Elves spent over 200 hours in 2018 building 75 wooden toys. The Sassy Stitchers made cradles and blankets. These were distributed to children in need through the Volunteers of America organization. Rockwood Care Communities have 2 locations in Spokane. This adds convenience for teachers because they can choose one closest to their school.
There are many ways teachers and students can partner with this organization. The students could partner with the Rockwood South Hill Elves and Sassy Stitchers to build toys for students in need. You can use that to discuss measurements in math and materials in science. You can set up a pen pal program where each student will have a pen pal with a senior at Rockwood. You can use this activity to teach ELA. It also helps lonely seniors. You can also just contact the organization and ask how they currently need help, as that changed over time.
