The Post Falls Local Food Bank is a resource for those in the Post Falls area that are struggling to provide food for themselves and or their family. At this food bank, people are able to pick up food for free, or a small fraction of the price. Their mission statement is “to provide relief from poverty and hunger to those in need through a united community effort.”
This organization makes a difference in that it helps people with the basic need for food. This local food bank provides a resource for people in the community as well as it can potentially benefit families at the school. Not only does this organization provide food, but they also put on different local events throughout the year. This benefits low-income families in that holiday celebrations may now be possible whereas it may have been a struggle before.
Teachers should consider partnering with this organization because they are highly experienced in working with the community because they are local. This makes their means of communication and their processes fairly easy to follow, making the process enjoyable. Also, the food bank is always welcoming to volunteers and fundraisers. Knowing this, teachers could plan an entire lesson around how we can help our community and have some real-life experience with this as a volunteer.
Teachers and students could partner with this organization in Idaho by helping support a food pantry at the school. With help from the food bank, local schools could begin their very own food pantry so that students have food to eat at home. This would be beneficial to families in that food banks are not always in convenient locations, but having access to the resource at school could be helpful. Then throughout the year, the school could participate in fundraisers that raise money for the food bank and food pantry.
