The purpose of the MLK Outreach Center is to provide help to families that are low-income, at-risk families, and families that look for any sort of assistance in general. The center provides many services to the community: food, financial, educational, and health services among others. The MLK center is partner with many organizations and many times work as a service outlet for many of their partners.
The MLK makes a difference by having many services to offer to the families in the community. In the food bank service, they are able to provide assistance to those families around the area to make it easier on the families. The families that are provided services are either low-income based, seniors, or have a large number of family members in their household. The MLK food bank is also supported by 2nd Harvest as a food bank outlet. Even though the food bank facility at MLK is small, partnering with the MLK food bank is by no means a small deed. One is able to help out many families that are truly in need of support. Also, one is presented to many families of different cultures. Many cultures means many languages, family habits, and stories to be exposed to. A person helping out can definitely build a new perspective to see things in life.
There are plenty of ways to partner with the MLK Outreach food bank. They welcome any support they get, so a food drive at the school is a great way to help the food bank out. If done in small groups, one can actually help out the people that come in for the food bank. Just to keep in mind, Wednesday is their busiest day at the food bank. The great thing about the MLK Outreach Center is that there are other ways to help. One can find a way to also help out with their W.I.C program. For older students, MLK has an after school program that is great for tutoring opportunities. Opportunities are endless!
