Kindness cones is a way for students to learn how to recognize other peers for a kind thing they did that day. Students receive a cone when they receive a kindness compliment from a student and then the next day that student thinks about who was kind that day, gives them a compliment and gives that student their cone. In our classroom we have about 6 cones that regularly circulate that classroom.
The class schedule is a tool that helps students know what to expect from the day and mentally and physically prepare themselves for the upcoming activities. This is helpful because students like to know what is expected of them and what they are going to be doing throughout the day.
Students have a bin in the middle of their group tables that has resources that set the students up for success. This can be things like calculators,scratch paper, resources for activities, etc. depending on the activity planned for the day.
Maintaining voice level is hard for the classroom, especially during partner work. These cards are reminders of what our voice level should be while in partner groups.
Teachers give their students paper bracelets that have statements about the life skills in our classrooms. This encourages students to have positive behaviors in the classroom to get a bracelet to wear around school, and take home.
The dirtiest wipe contest is used as a tool to clean up the classroom. It is helpful because the entire class is working to try and get their wipe the dirtiest by wiping down anything that is dirty, which leads to a clean classroom. This also helps students feel motivated to clean their classroom and be proud of the way it looks.
This tool is a great tool that can be used in the mornings when students come to school. Students can check in and choose how they are feeling that day. It lets the teacher know how students are feeling and whether they need to adjust their day as well.
This tool helps students and the teacher understand a student’s level of thinking and understanding of the assignment. With this, students can feel safe telling the teacher their understanding indirectly and without contact.
This tool will be helpful because students will be able to write down the problems they are having inside or outside the classroom and then the teacher and the students will work together to find a solution. Some students may be scared to share their problems or an incident that has occurred this problem-solving box can help students feel safe to share without feeling pressured or feeling embarrassed.
This tool is a way to turn student classwork into games to encourage them to work towards something. It is helpful for keeping students interested.
