Immunizations

Did you receive a fine for not submitting your vaccine document(s)? Please call 509.359.6960 for more information.

Immunizations are important to the health and safety of our students and campus community. EWU has a requirement for the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) and COVID-19 vaccines for students and employees. Additionally, Gov. Inslee recently issued Proclamation 21-14.1, which requires all higher education employees and volunteers to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by Oct. 18 (more).

Please note: You do not need to pay $12 to submit your record, or $12 to expedite your record.

Additionally: EWU students if you have already created a Med+Proctor account with your XXX@eagles.ewu.edu email account in the past, please sign in with that account and do not create a new one with your XXX@ewu.edu email account. All correspondences from Med+Proctor will be forwarded to your new email. To login with your email address, click here.

Faculty and staff and students new to Med+Proctor should use the SSO link below. @eagles.ewu.edu addresses will not receive email after September 1, 2022.

For the COVID-19 vaccination:

A vaccination card or state vaccination record that shows either one dose of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine or two doses of the Moderna or Pfizer BioNTech vaccine (or another WHO approved vaccine for our international students).

    • A blood test (titer) showing measles, mumps and rubella immunity, or
    • Diagnosed measles, mumps and rubella disease (healthcare provider's signature required).
  • Staff:
    • One dose of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine received after one year of age , or
    • A blood test (titer) showing measles, mumps and rubella immunity, or

COVID-19 Vaccination FAQs

What is required? Collapse

All EWU students, employees, and visiting scholars must provide proof that they are fully vaccinated or have an approved waiver. “Fully vaccinated” means someone has received:

    • One dose of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine
    • Two doses of the Moderna or Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine
    • For people outside of the United States, other vaccinations will be accepted if they are listed by the World Health Organization
    • Moving forward, if other vaccines receive emergency use authorization or regular approval from the Food and Drug Administration, EWU will accept those vaccinations as proof of full vaccination

Waivers are available for medical or religious reasons. Accommodations are also available for pregnant individuals. For employees, including student employees, seeking a medical waiver, please contact Human Resources. For employees, including student employees, seeking a religious waiver, please contact equal opportunity.

When does the requirement go into effect? Expand

Documentation is required to be submitted by September 15, 2021.

Where do I upload my document(s)? Expand

For Students, Staff & Faculty: Med+Proctor supports Single Sign On. Follow the link below or click the Med+Proctor Link in A-Z Services on InsideEWU

Here are the Steps to Follow

EWU uses a third-party vendor, Med+Proctor, to collect and store vaccination records. You need to upload your vaccine records and/or waiver request to Med+Proctor.

Ready to upload? Visit Med+Proctor to get started or visit support.medproctor.com for any questions associated with submitting required immunization documentation.

The old account login page is available at https://secure.medproctor.com/Account/SignIn

For students and employees, immunization records can only be accepted through Med+Proctor. Students should also continue to submit waiver forms through Med+Proctor. For employees, including student employees, if you are submitting a medical waiver you must contact Human Resources and if you are submitting a religious waiver you must go through Equal Opportunity.

Counseling & Wellness Services will not accept any documents, certificates or emails at this time.

What document(s) can I submit? Expand

If you are getting a two dose vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) we encourage you to wait until you've gotten both doses before submitting your final record.

We accept any of the following documents as proof of your COVID-19 vaccine:

  • COVID-19 Vaccination Card
  • Copy of State Immunization Registry Record
Where will my vaccine records be stored? Expand

Vaccine records are stored in Med+Proctor. Med+Proctor provides EWU with a list of people who have submitted proof of full vaccination and/or a waiver. EWU will then store this information within a confidential field in our secure student information system.

Who will have access to my vaccination status? Expand

For employees, your vaccination status will be shared with your supervisor, Human Resources, Institutional Research, and the COVID-19 Response Team (Health & Wellness, Risk Management). For students, your vaccination status will be shared with the COVID-19 Response Team (Health & Wellness, Risk Management), Human Resources, Student Rights & Responsibilities, Records & Registration, Institutional Research, Housing & Residential Life (if living on campus), and Athletics (student athletes only).

Are there exemptions to this requirement? Expand

If you have a medical or religious reason to be exempt from this requirement, complete the Request for Waiver form found in the Med+Proctor system. Once waiver is completed, upload document to the Med+Proctor site.

If you are a student in a 100% online program and do not ever come to campus, you do not need to do anything. Accommodation are also available for pregnant individuals.

According to the current guidelines from the CDC and requirements from the Department of Health, people who are not fully vaccinated must continue to wear masks in indoor settings and maintain 6’ of distance from others. In certain settings, such as campus housing and athletics, you may also be required to participate in regular COVID testing.

What if I have a medical reason for not getting vaccinated? Expand

If you have a medical reason to not get vaccinated, please submit a medical waiver request. A medical waiver must be signed by a medical provider who attests that the person has a medical reason for not being vaccinated.

For employees, including student employees, if you are seeking a medical waiver you must go through Human Resources.

What if I have a medical reason for not getting vaccinated and I also cannot wear a mask? Expand

You will need to take two separate actions. First, you will need to submit a medical waiver in Med+Proctor to comply with EWU’s immunization requirements. Second, you will need to seek a reasonable accommodation and the accommodation must be approved before you will be able to be present on campus and not wear a mask. Students seeking a disability accommodation must contact Disability Support Services. Employees seeking a disability accommodation must contact Human Resources.

What if I have a religious objection to the COVID vaccines? Expand

If you have a religious reason for not receiving a COVID vaccine, please submit a religious waiver request.

For employees, including student employees, you must submit the religious waiver request through Equal Opportunity.

If I submit a waiver request, will I need to follow additional safety measures such as wearing a mask? Expand

Yes. Per Governor guidelines, all students, whether vaccinated or not are required to wear masks in indoor settings and outdoor settings where there are more than 500 people. People who are not fully vaccinated should also maintain 6’ of distance from others. In certain settings, such as campus housing and athletics, you may also be required to participate in regular COVID testing.

What if I have already had COVID-19 and recovered, but have not been vaccinated? Expand

EWU is following the CDC and Department of Health's directions. The CDC and Department of Health are only allowing people who are fully vaccinated to remove their masks. This has not been extended to people who have previously had COVID-19 due to uncertainty about how long and to what extent such antibodies may provide protection to a future infection. There is more information on the CDC's website at: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/faq.html

I am a high school student, does this requirement apply to me? Expand

EWU’s immunization requirements apply to students who attend classes on a EWU campus, including Running Start students. The requirements do not apply to students who are taking classes from a high school as part of the College in the High School program.

Does this requirement apply to minors? Expand

Yes.

Does this requirement apply to people who are only online? Expand

If a student is solely taking online courses and is not present on EWU’s campus, the student is not required to comply with the immunization requirements. Employees who exclusively work remotely (not on a EWU campus or in a EWU building) are also excluded from the requirement.

Will you limit areas of campus that unvaccinated individuals may visit, such as the URC or Library? Expand

Some programs, such as Sorority & Fraternity Life, Intramural Sports, and EPIC Adventures require that vaccination records or approved waiver be submitted for eligibility to participate. You must also wear a mask at all times when indoors.

What happens if I do not submit proof of vaccination or seek a waiver? Expand

Students who do not upload their vaccination records or seek a medical or religious waiver will be fined up to $250 per term. Employees may be subject to corrective action or discipline for failure to follow a EWU policy.

Housing on Campus: Will EWU have one dorm for vaccinated individuals and another for unvaccinated individuals? Expand

No.

Housing on Campus: Can I request to be assigned a roommate who is vaccinated? Expand

Yes. EWU will be offering this option to its students. More information will be provided to students and parents later this summer.

Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) FAQs

Where do I submit my document(s)? Collapse

For Students, Staff & Faculty: Here are the Steps to Follow

EWU has partnered with Med+Proctor to collect and verify proof of immunity.

Ready to upload? Visit Med+Proctor to get started or visit support.medproctor.com for any questions associated with submitting required immunization documentation.

Immunization records can only be accepted through Med+Proctor. Counseling & Wellness Services will not accept any documents, certificates or emails at this time.

Why an MMR requirement? Expand

Per EWU Policy all incoming students, as well as staff and faculty are required to submit proof of MMR immunity.

Measles, mumps and rubella are highly communicable diseases that can be mitigated by receiving two (2) doses of the MMR vaccine. The presence in our society of individuals who have not been immunized for measles, mumps and rubella creates a significant health risk.  College populations remain susceptible to measles, mumps and rubella and these diseases continue to be associated with outbreaks in the general public and on college campuses.  During the recent past, there have been numerous cases in Washington State and Spokane County, Washington.  Confirmed outbreaks on a college campus can lead the Spokane Regional Health District to place a campus on exclusionary status.

In the event the Spokane Regional Health District determines there is a measles, mumps, or rubella outbreak on campus, university officials will notify those students and staff who have an approved waiver request of the outbreak.  Students and staff with approved waiver requests will not be allowed on campus including, but not limited to: attending classes, working, participating in campus activities, or living in residence halls.  Typically, an outbreak lasts for two to four weeks and students with an approved waiver will not be allowed on campus during an outbreak.  Once the outbreak is no longer in effect, students and staff will be notified that they may return to campus.

What document(s) can I submit? Expand

We accept any of the following documents as proof of measles, mumps, and rubella immunity:

  • School Certificate of Immunizations, or
  • Immunization records from your healthcare provider, public health department, or state immunization registry, or
  • Copy of your child immunization card, or
  • Copy of your military immunization record, or
  • Signed proof of immunity form (located on the Med+Proctor site) from your healthcare provider.
Where can I get an MMR vaccine or titer? Expand

If you are a current student, MultiCare Rockwood serves as our student health clinic and provides the MMR (measles, mumps & rubella) vaccine and/or a MMR titer blood test. There is no additional cost for the MMR immunization, and there is an $8.00 co-pay for the titer.  Best practice is to receive a titer to determine immunity before revaccinating.  Please call 509-235-6151 to make an appointment with your Student Health provider for either of these services.

If you are not a current student, you can receive the vaccine or a titer from your healthcare provider. Pharmacies are also able to provide the MMR vaccine. Please call your pharmacy about availability first.

Where can I get my immunization records? Expand

If you received measles immunizations in the past but don’t have documentation, try contacting these sources to get a copy of your immunization record:

  • The doctor where you received your immunizations
  • Your high school
  • The public health department responsible for the area where you received the vaccine

International Students will have the same measles, mumps, and rubella proof of immunity requirement.

All documentation must be in English.

Current student means you are currently in classes and taking 6 or more credits.

Are you a Running Start Student? Expand

Running Start students will need to submit verification of MMR immunity.

Are there exemptions to the requirement?

If you submit a waiver form, and we have an outbreak of Measles, Mumps or Rubella on campus, you will be notified and will not be allowed on campus. This includes, but is not limited to: attending classes, participating in campus activities, or living in residence halls. You will continue to be responsible for paying tuition and housing costs during the time you are excluded from campus. An outbreak typically lasts for a minimum of two weeks and you will not be able to be on campus during that time period. Once the outbreak is no longer in effect, you will be notified that you will be able to return to campus.
