JED Campus
JED Campus is a nationwide initiative of The Jed Foundation designed to help colleges and universities enhance emotional well-being and mental health promotion efforts, reduce substance abuse, and prevent suicide among students.
JED Campus and EWU
In Fall 2019, EWU entered into a strategic, four-year partnership with JED Campus. This partnership is designed to help EWU through a collaborative process that examines comprehensive systems, program and policy development with tailored support to build upon existing student mental health, substance abuse and suicide prevention efforts.
How does it work?
In the Fall of 2019, a leadership team comprised of staff, faculty and students from across the university formed and met monthly. This team completed a campus-wide assessment of EWU’s programs, systems and challenges. In addition, student data was gathered through the Healthy Minds Survey. Student survey data, student focus group sessions, and the campus assessment informed the development of a draft strategic plan for the campus.

Step 2

Work Groups
The leadership team continues to meet monthly and provide oversight to the workgroups. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the group has pivoted to work on issues that support students in the current virtual environment.
This workgroup has put together a strategic communication plan to outreach to students and staff at critical times during the academic year. They also continue to highlight the supports in place for students, as well as the work of the team.
This workgroup supports the overall success of the initiative by providing data support to each of the workgroups. They are also identifying on-going data needs and creating data snapshots to help identify gaps in services.
This team is updating and finalizing the campus postvention plan, which will be broadly disseminated across campus.
This workgroup is identifying gaps and needs within sub-populations for programming and working to build programming that fills the need.
This workgroup collaborates with the undergraduate public health program to create student projects that can create social connections. For Fall 2020, the group is working on offering virtual affinity groups for students.
