Academic Support Services

Eastern Washington University’s Academic Support Services undergo regular evaluation to ensure continuous improvement and effectiveness. Each unit maintains an assessment plan within the university’s assessment software, Nuventive Improve. These plans are designed to align with the Divisional Goals and the broader University Strategic Plan Goals (Pillars), which can be explored here.

As part of our commitment to transparency, we are actively implementing a transparency framework. Stakeholders can track annually assessed updates on unit activities through our Activity and Strategy Alignment dashboard.

Our Commitment to Diversity

At Eastern Washington University, we are committed to a campus climate that welcomes and respects diversity. These efforts are championed by our campus leadership and the Office for Diversity and Inclusion. EWU is a microcosm of society reflecting diversity of people, ideas, beliefs and philosophies.

Eastern Washington University is located in the city of Cheney, WA, a thriving small town community located 17 miles southwest of Spokane. The Cheney community provides a rural, family friendly atmosphere and home to its EWU Eagles.

Nearby Spokane, WA, is the financial, cultural and retail center for a large area of Washington, Idaho and Western Montana known as the Inland Northwest. Spokane, the 2nd largest city in the state of Washington, lives up to its tagline, “Near Nature, Near Perfect.” The Spokane-Cheney area offers the benefits of residing in a metropolitan area, including a rich arts and culture scene, with nearby opportunities for small town living.

Student Accommodations and Support Services (https://inside.ewu.edu/sass/ )

Student Accommodations and Support Services at Eastern Washington University is a combination of the Student Care Team and Disability Support Services. We are here to serve students who may be struggling with personal challenges and/or obstacles. Our team is here to help coordinate the care and resources students need to overcome barriers to their personal and academic success. We promote equal opportunity for all students and can provide crisis care, case management, and appropriate and reasonable accommodations on an individual basis. Our goal is to empower students to gain the skills and support they need so that they can be independent, allowing them to complete their program of study while being as self-reliant as possible and making their time at EWU a positive experience.

Role of Student Accommodations and Support Services regarding student accommodations:

Academically qualified students with disabilities are an integral part of the student population at Eastern Washington University, and providing equal opportunities is a campus-wide responsibility and commitment. Although the University does not offer specialized curricula or assume the role of a rehabilitation center, personnel within the University work with students to modify campus facilities and programs to meet individual needs.

Student Accommodations and Support Services staff can provide details about the services provided and are available to meet with prospective students.
