MMR Non-Compliance Fine Information

EWU requires measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) immunization for students and employees.

Immunization

  • The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that students at post-high school educational institution have two doses of MMR vaccine, separated by at least 28 days. This is due to the highly contagious nature of Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (German Measles).
  • You can read more about this requirement at the website for Counselling and Wellness Services.
  • All vaccination documentation, including exemptions, is uploaded to Med+Proctor for verification using your EWU SSO.

How to Avoid a Fine

  • Become verified by Med+Proctor by the third week of your first term at EWU, either by providing proof of (2) MMR vaccines, a titer test showing immunity, or a religious or medical exemption form.
  • You can access EWU’s Academic Calendar here.

Fine Structure

  • Initial non-compliance fines of $250 will be charged to all non-compliant students in their first term at EWU.
    • If students are not fined their first term, the first instance they incur a fine for MMR non-compliance it will be the initial fine of $250.
  • Continued non-compliance fines of $100 will be assessed each term the student remains non-compliant.
  • Fines will be assessed during the third week of each term.

I got a Fine! Now what?

  • Become compliant ASAP! This will ensure you will be able to access campus should an outbreak occur.
  • Once you have been verified by Med+Proctor, you can request the current term fine be waived – as long as you are verified by the end of the quarter. Reach out to Student Rights & Responsibilities by email at srr@ewu.edu, or respond to one of those emails we sent you.
  • Prior term fines are not eligible for waiver.

But I’m an online student!

  • Students who are enrolled in online-only programs are exempt from the MMR requirement.
    • If you enrolled in an online-only program and get a fine, reach out to Student Rights & Responsibilities at srr@ewu.edu.
  • If you are in a program that has the option to attend in person for any class at any time, this is not considered online-only and you must be compliant with the policy to avoid a fine.

Students in certain programs may have additional immunization requirements. Please contact your specific department program for more information.
