Throwback Thursday: The 1960 EWU ROTC Drill Team

This picture was taken in 1960 of the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) drill team.  Back then Eastern Washington University (EWU) was called Eastern Washington College-Cheney.  Do any alumni remember wearing this drill team uniform back in the 1960’s?

  2. @Jerry, as I mentioned on Facebook I think the school’s name changed in 1961 because the yearbook I pulled this picture from has Eastern Washington College-Cheney on its cover.

  3. @Tom, we don’t have a drill team anymore here at EWU, but maybe we can bring you back to start one! 😉

By the way it is awesome to have a 1958 graduate commenting on here. Have a great weekend!

  4. I was a member of the 1955-1956 ROTC Drill Team at Eastern Washington College of Education. I can remember competing with other regional ROTC teams at the University of Idaho, but dressed in a strictly standard ROTC uniform which were “pinks and greens” at that time. I graduated in 1959. I thought I might recognize someone in the photo but I do not. The Sponsor Corps uniform is the same as “my” era. When I got to Fort Belvoir in June of 1959, it was the first time I had ever seen the Army khaki shorts uniform, so this “new look” probably was developed after May 1959. I wonder when the ROTC Arms Room might have been updated with the M-1 rifles, if ever.
