EWU Food Pantry Program

The Central Food Pantry will be open on Tuesday afternoons between 1-4 pm. We ask that you please meet one of our staff members by the door on the side facing Patterson Hall during that time. Please email foodpantry@ewu.edu with questions or if you are in need of accommodations.

Due to COVID-19, we are expecting food pantry need to increase drastically on our campus. Our office is taking measures to practice social distancing, so collecting donations at this time is not a feasible option.  If you would like to share your resources in the form of a monetary donation that will be used to restock the pantries, please click the button below.

GIVE NOW

MISSON:  The EWU Food Pantry Program aims to alleviate hunger and foster a healthy and inclusive community by providing access to nutritious food. All members of the EWU community are invited to take what they need from the cabinets and central pantry.

Food Cabinets Expand

There are 7 food cabinets located in 7 different buildings on campus. Each cabinet is filled with non-perishable food items and hygiene products. The cabinets can be accessed during the opening hours of the building in which they are located in (see map below for specific details on locations within buildings).

Each cabinet is "adopted" by an EWU club or organization whose members restock their assigned cabinet each week.

Visitors are asked to complete a quick "check-out" survey whenever they take something from the cabinet.

Central Food Pantry Expand

The central food pantry is located in Tawanka 129E. Due to volunteer schedules, hours open will change each term (see below for most current schedule).

When available, the central food pantry provides perishable items such as:

  • Fresh produce
  • Dairy
  • Meat
  • Eggs
  • Non-perishable food items
  • Hygiene products

On their first visit, guests are assigned a pin number and asked to complete an intake form. In order to complete the check-out survey, guests will use their pin number each time they visit the pantry.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to "qualify" to use the pantry? Expand

Anyone in need in the EWU community is welcome to utilize the pantry program. We do not ask for income or proof of address. We do ask for an email address for the purpose of being able to contact guests in the case that there is a recall on a food item.

What do I need to bring when I go to the pantry? Expand

If you have been assigned a pantry pin, we ask that you remember it so that you can complete the check-out survey before you leave. If you have a reusable grocery bag, feel free to bring it to the pantry. If not, we have some for you!

How much food can I take when I go to the pantry? Expand

Guests are encouraged to take the amount of food that they will use and to keep in mind that we also serve other guests.

How many times can I utilize the pantry? Expand

Guests are encouraged to utilize the pantry as many times as they feel necessary and to keep in mind that we also serve other guests.

Why do I need to complete an intake form on my first visit and a check-out survey every time I go to the pantry, and for what purpose is my information collected (ex: email, demographics, weight of food)? Expand

We must collect an email address from each guest so that if there is a recall on a food item, we are able to contact everyone. The information collected on the intake form is intended to get to know who we serve so that we can better serve you all and improve the pantry program. Also, in order to uphold our partnerships with our donors, we are required to submit the age groups of the individuals that we serve and the amount of food that is distributed.
