
Congratulations to McNair Scholar, Noemi! Noemi has been accepted to University of New Mexico’s Summer Research Internship. This collaborative experience, sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) since 2017, uses principles of Community-Based Participatory Research to observe “the nature and impacts of US immigration the nature and impacts of US immigration policy in the Paso del Norte borderlands region of Las Cruces-El Paso-Ciudad Juárez”.
Noemí is studying Interdisciplinary Studies and Music Technology at Eastern Washington University, with minors in History and Political Science. Some of their research interests include how immigration policy affects communities and immigrants’ stories of struggle and joy as well as how labor connects to all of the above.
After graduation, Noemí aims to attend graduate school, culminating in a J.D./PhD, where they will research critical issues around immigration policy, as well as do pro-bono work to support people in their immigration cases.
