Arcelia Madrigal accepted to EWU's EdSCongratulations to EWU McNair Scholar Arcelia Madrigal! Arcelia has been accepted to Eastern Washington University‘s Educational Specialist School Psychology Program (EdS) on the Hybrid Track. EWU’s program is the first of its kind (online/hybrid) to receive full accreditation by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP).

From the EWU School Psychology website:

We adopt a preventive focus by training candidates to assess and intervene at the individual, school-wide and at-risk group level. Knowledge and skills are developed through integrated coursework, field experiences and internship.

Arcelia is majoring in Psychology with a minor in Special Education and earning a certificate in Social Emotional Learning for Educational Equity. Arcelia is the Vice President of Eastern Washington’s Psi Chi chapter and an active member of Eagle Ambassadors. Her 2022 McNair Summer Research project, under mentor Dr. Susan Ruby, was titled Cultural Experience and Perception of Social Emotional Learning and focused on how students across culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds might differ in experiences that impact their perception and application of SEL. Arcelia recently presented her research at the NASP (National Association of School Psychologists) Annual Convention in Denver.

The EWU McNair staff are excited for Arcelia. We know she will contribute a thoughtful perspective and become a leader of her learning community in any graduate program she attends, and go on to an impactful career in research and the practice of school psychology.
