Rules are important to have in a classroom, but even more important is how the rules are presented. They are meant to create the classroom environment, and are created for a moral reason. If they are positively phrased, purposeful, and conceptual, they will be much more effective.
Cool down jar is filled with glitter glue, (Students choice of colors) water, and oil. It should be used when the student needs to take a mental or emotional break from class to refocus and center themselves and then rejoin the class when they are ready, should be less than 5 minutes to not take away from their learning.
Planning for high traffic area tool is helpful by organizing the classroom in a way where all things that will be used during group work is widely separated from each other, have plenty of space, and easy to get to for students if they are moving around a lot.
This tool is a discussion strategy where students get to participate and observe. They are either in the middle, discussing, and being a “fish”; or they are sitting on the outside observing. This tool is helpful because the students get to discuss is depth, hear all of their peers other ideas, and they don’t have the pressure of having to talk about all topics.
This tool uses the idea of purposeful design and coloring in your classroom to make it appeasing to the eye. When you are thoughtful about your colors and design, it helps to create a space for students where they are more likely to be better focused and more comfortable.
Brain Breaks can be used for individual students or for whole group. These brain breaks for correction are used when a specific student or students are off task and need some sort of movement to release energy and focus their brain back onto the lesson or activity.
A phone call home can be used for any student any time he or she has done something in the classroom that they deserve to be recognized for. The teacher will simply call home, ask for the student, recognize he or she for something they have done well or have been working hard at, and then say goodbye.
The tool is a telephone outline picture with 6 empty spots on it that each student will get. The students will pair up (6 different times) and write the name of their partner on one of the numbers in their telephone, the other partner will do the same. Each pair will have the others’ name in the same number spot so that the number spots are matching. This will be used for grouping.
Shells for grouping is used as an easy tool for assembling groups by matching shell types or colors. This makes the grouping more random and helps to ensure that nobody gets left out.
A community pencil dispenser is just one of many individual components of community supplies. Making writing implements readily available to all students helps relieve some of the stress students may face when they are unable to provide their own materials, or even if they’ve simply forgotten to bring something with them on a given day.
