McNair Scholar Tiago Correia Accepted to Tufts University MS in Mathematics

Congratulations to McNair Scholar Tiago Correia! Tiago has been accepted to Tufts University Master of Science in Mathematics, with partial funding. Tufts offers both basic and applied mathematics with customizable programs of study.

Tiago Correia is a first-generation, low-income student working towards a Bachelor of Science in mathematics at Eastern Washington University. His research interests are in group theory and topology. He plans to one day attend a PhD program in mathematics. After that, he aims to do postdoctoral research and become a professor at an R1 institution.

In the summer of 2023, Tiago attended a National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) at Central Washington University (CC-REU). While there, he worked with the mathematical biology group under the guidance of Dr. Brandy WiegersHe and his group presented their research at the end of the summer, entitled “An Androgen-Dependent Mathematical Model of the Menstrual Cycle”. Later that year, he presented his research at the 2023 SACNAS conference in Portland, Oregon.
