We are thrilled to announce that Jasmine Joy Paloma, an exceptional student and McNair scholar has been accepted into the Master of Social Work program at Seattle University. Jasmine’s achievement is a testament to her dedication, academic excellence, and unwavering commitment to serving others.
Jasmine is a first-generation college student pursuing a major in social work, with minors in psychology, sociology, and anthropology. She is set to graduate in spring 2026. Throughout her time at Eastern Washington University (EWU), Jasmine has consistently demonstrated academic excellence as a regular member of the dean’s list. Beyond the classroom, she has made a profound impact on campus life, notably serving as president of the Asian Student Association Club from 2022 to 2025 and playing a pivotal role in its founding.
Her passion for social justice is evident in her academic pursuits and research interests, which include the history of food, social justice, historical oppression, and advocacy for diverse communities. In 2025, Jasmine conducted significant research alongside EWU Faculty Research Mentors Dr. Jason Scully and Dr. Pui-Yan Lam. Her project, “Community-based Organizations Serving Immigrant and Refugees,” examined the facilitators and barriers faced by organizations supporting immigrants and refugees in Spokane County. Through interviews with leadership and staff at approximately 20 organizations, Jasmine’s research aimed to provide valuable insights for enhancing support to these vital communities.
Jasmine’s long-term goal is to attain her PhD and use her expertise to better serve marginalized populations. Her acceptance into Seattle University’s distinguished Master of Social Work program marks a significant milestone on this journey. Great Job Jasmine!
