All McNair Cohorts
Minerva and Edith have received the Washington Women In Need education grant for $5,000 each. This organization empowers women in Washington State to continue their education and to build a better future. They may use these grants towards tuition, mandatory fees, and required books and supplies at accredited Washington colleges and universities.
McNair Scholar, Ricardo Ely, presented his research October 28th at the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology in Salt Lake City, Utah. He delivered a poster presentation with his advisor Dr. Judd Case on a Theropod Dinosaur from James Ross Island, Antarctica.
This Fall, Minerva and Ella received the opportunity to participate in a campus visit at Indiana University through a multi-day recruitment program for IU applicants. They met with possible mentors, explored the campus, and had a chance to sit in a seminar class with graduate students. Congratulations to Jennyfer Mesa for presenting her research paper on “Cross-Cultural Placemaking in Latino Central Washington” at the 2016 Association of Pacific Coast Geographers Annual Meeting at Portland State University last week! Awesome work Jennyffer! http://www.pdx.edu/geography/apcg-2016
This June Ariel McMillan presented her research, “Perceptions of Oppression White Students of Eastern Washington University,” at the National Conference on Race & Ethnicity In American Higher Education in San Francisco, California. Ariel attended the conference as a student scholarship recipient and says that the conference experience “was beyond productive and insightful!”
This March, two McNair Scholars, Samantha de Abreu and Jennyfer Mesa Granada traveled to The 63rd Annual Southeastern Conference of Latin American Studies in Cartagena, Colombia. Samantha de Abreu presented her research: “A Tale of Symbiosis and Success: Cuban Vermiculture.” Jennyfer Mesa Granada presented on: “Al Bordo del Desastre: Waste Disposal Crisis and Response in Contemporary Mexico City.” … Read more
