Daily tasks are helpful in the classroom because they give students a sense of responsibility with tasks that can differ from day to day. It empowers students by holding them responsible for a given task, assigned by the teacher, which can range from passing out papers to taking attendance.
A Verbal Plan for Improvement is as simple as a one-sentence plan that is developed by the student, stating what the student will do differently in the future. This plan is specific, realistic, brief, and stated in a positive manor. It is very important that the student state their own plan and make a commitment to following it, which can be done by writing their statement down on paper or printing it out.
This tool allows students to choose how they want to greet their teacher every morning. They can point to pictures to choose a handshake, a high-five, a hug, or a dance move.
This classroom management tool helps with getting younger students to make good decisions by themselves. If their behavior needs to be corrected they have options on the wheel and can decide for which one is the better option that goes with their particular situation.
Consistent Consequences is about addressing behavioral issues with appropriate consequences. This involves going through with consequences you may have mentioned you would do if a student misbehaved.
Classroom Curtains allows you to hide any shelves that have supplies or objects that are not in use at the moment. By hiding the materials, you prevent students from getting distracted during lessons and it helps prevent the students from using those supplies.
For this classroom management tool, a tapping pillow is for the student who consistently taps their pen or pencil during class. Sometimes the sounds can not only be distracting to other students but also interruptive when the teacher is giving directions.
This strategy is helpful because it allows the student to take part in the decision making. The teacher gives the student two options to redirect their behavior, increase self-control, and increase responsibility.
The problem solving cycle gives students the steps and procedures they need to take in order to solve a problem between them and another student. This tool allows for students to solve problems themselves without teacher interference (unless it is needed) and develops their skills of solving problem.
Using puzzle pieces as a grouping strategy for students is a fun way to arrange students in groups. This strategy allows for complete randomization of groups and makes sure that no students feel excluded.
