STEPS FOR RSO STUDENTS SEEKING ADMISSION TO EWU

The following steps will guide you through the application and approval process. In general, students with RSO status must have completed court sanctions and any required treatment program(s) prior to enrolling.

  1. First you will APPLY to EWU, through the Admissions Office.
  2. Once you’ve been admitted, NOTIFY your Corrections Officer and the Sheriff’s Office (Required by law).
  3. SUBMIT a Release of Information for your Corrections Officer.
  4. COMPLETE this Maxient Form, (it will notify the Eastern Washington University’s Dean of Students, Student Rights and Responsibilities office (SRR), and Police Department (EWUPD) of your intention to attend EWU.
    • You will be asked to upload any court documents that outline your restrictions AND documentation that you have successfully completed a treatment program.
    • A Dean’s hold will automatically be placed on your student account until the review process is complete.)
  5. If you are a transfer student, COMPLETE this Student Conduct Background Check Form and send it to the Student Conduct office(s) at your previous institution(s).
  6. Next, a Student Affairs staff member will email you to set up a meeting to discuss your request. ATTEND THAT MEETING. At the meeting, an EWU Police Officer, the Dean of Students and a Student Rights staff member will review your Maxient Form and the four of you will discuss and develop a potential plan (adhering to federal and state requirements associated with your status.)

If you are offered conditional approval to study at EWU, you will be required to review and sign a behavioral contract and be offered resources and support.

AFTER YOU’VE BEEN CONDITIONALLY APPROVED

At the start of each semester or quarter, the SRR will send the your faculty a letter of notification informing them of your RSO status and any restrictions that are placed on the student. If the faculty members need additional guidance regarding the restrictions, they will reach out to the EWUPD officer assigned to your case. You are required to meet with the SRR office on a regular basis throughout your academic career as outlined in your contract.

IF YOU ARE NOT APPROVED

If you are not offered approval to study at EWU, you will be have the chance to appeal this decision. The appeal process will be explained and outlined in the meeting. Then SRR office will notify the Registrar’s Office and Academic Advising of any class restrictions.
