Who should apply?

Peer Coaches: We accept undergraduates from ANY major – but the experience will most align with students who aspire to careers in law, counseling, international negotiations, diplomacy, or simply want to make a difference.

Graduate Assistantship: (FILLED for 2024-25) Graduate students at EWU enrolled in the following programs will find the most direct experience and applicability: Adult Education, Behavioral Health, Business, Counseling, Organizational Leadership, Public Health, Public Administration, School Psychology and Social Work. We are open to other degrees/majors where relevance can be made.

What are the Benefits?

Peer Coaches: Work up to 19.5 hours per week at a rate of $17.25 per hour (approx. $1,345.50 a month). If you are federal work-study eligible, we will cover the difference in your hours to reach 19.5 hours per week. Certain majors may provide internship credit for this position as well.

Graduate Assistant Position: Work 19.5 hours per week and engage in professional work that aligns with your academic program. Students will receive a tuition waiver covering a substantial portion of their education, along with an annual stipend of $13,000.

What types of things will I do as a Conflict Coach?

  1. Conflict Coaching: Meet with students 1:1 to provide tips and ideas so they can navigate their conflict situation successfully.
  2. Community Campaigns: Organize community events and campaigns focused on promoting healthy communication and mediation skills. These could include awareness campaigns, community service projects, or social events.
  3. Conflict Podcast: Host a weekly podcast where you explore topics of conflict and help to provide ideas and support for EWU student.
  4. Conflict Peer Support Group: Organize monthly peer support group sessions where students can come together in a safe and supportive environment to discuss their challenges, share experiences, and provide mutual support.
  5. Workshops and Seminars: Conduct workshops and seminars on topics such as conflict resolution, effective communication skills, and building resilience. These can be interactive and engaging sessions led by experts or experienced peers.
  6. Online Forums, Hotline or Discussion Boards: Create an online platform where students can anonymously ask questions, seek advice, and share their experiences. This could be through a dedicated forum on your group’s website or a private group on a social media platform.
  7. Resource Library: Develop a comprehensive resource library with articles, videos, podcasts, and other materials related to various challenges students may face. Make these resources easily accessible on your group’s website or through a dedicated online portal.
  8. Guest Speaker Series: Invite guest speakers, such as mental health professionals, educators, or motivational speakers, to share their expertise and insights on topics relevant to student challenges and conflict resolution.
  9. Collaboration with Student Organizations: Collaborate with other student organizations on campus to address common challenges and promote a culture of support and inclusivity. This could involve joint events, workshops, or initiatives focused on specific student populations or issues.
  10. Bulletin Board Packets: Create bulletin board materials and information for CA’s to post in their residence halls.
  11. Liaison Meetings: Meet with your liaisonship once a month to assess needs and provide training and support.
