EWU TRIO McNair proudly celebrates Jennifer Dawson, an outstanding student majoring in both sociology and criminal justice, for being awarded two prestigious scholarships: the Jeffers Chertok Memorial Scholarship and the Tyler V Williams Scholarship!
The Jeffers W. Chertok Memorial Scholarship, established in 2005 by Daniel & Margie Carper and the Chertok Family, honors the remarkable 34-year career of Dean Jeffers Chertok at EWU. Dean Chertok’s legacy continues through the students he inspired, the faculty he mentored, and the wisdom he shared. He is remembered as a strong advocate for Eastern, a statesman, a quiet yet brilliant scholar, and a beloved figure among students and colleagues alike. Jennifer Dawson exemplifies the spirit of academic excellence and intellectual curiosity celebrated by these scholarships. Her research delves into the intricacies of non-monogamous relationships across different socioeconomic backgrounds, examining how cultural, social, and economic factors shape relationship structures. Jennifer’s work is distinguished by her dedication to challenging stereotypes and expanding the conversation about nontraditional relationships, fostering a deeper and more inclusive understanding of love, partnership, and social norms.
In addition to her research, Jennifer actively engages in interdisciplinary dialogues, drawing insights from sociology, psychology, and contemporary cultural studies. Her academic pursuits are complemented by a vibrant creative life—she is a passionate writer of poetry and an enthusiast of standup comedy.
